Containing numerous different park areas and trials, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area contains a vast variety of landscape, from mountains to beaches. Sites within the park include Circle X Ranch, Solstice Canyon and many other places, best explored on foot via the hiking trails that crisscross the entire area. The park resides just west of Los Angeles and south of Thousand Oaks, touching the Santa Monica Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Many other public parks also occupy space within the boundaries of the recreation area, providing even more places to enjoy the coastal and mountainous beauty of southwestern California.
